Comparing pergolas fairly during a showroom visit

Compare the same operating tasks, interfaces and documentation, and record differences between the display and the quoted configuration.

Identify the demonstration unit first

Before a showroom demonstration, record the unit’s model, dimensions, roof type, enclosures, controller and accessories. Similar-looking pergolas may have very different configurations. Comparing an enclosed display with an open one does not support a general brand conclusion about sound or spatial comfort. Mark showroom accessories excluded from the quotation. This converts an appealing experience into an identifiable requirement and avoids later discovering that lighting, screens or controls belonged to a different package.

Observe the same tasks

Ask staff to demonstrate normal opening, closing, enclosures and common settings while observing from consistent positions. Do not deliberately obstruct moving components to test protection, and do not treat a few cycles as durability certification. Evaluate how understandable normal use is, how many controls it needs and what conditions limit operation. Where a scenario should not be simulated, ask for the relevant documentation instead of an unsuitable extreme demonstration.

Ask about service and replacement

Displays emphasise appearance more readily than finding a replacement part after a fault. Ask staff to identify service points, component labels and the relevant document pages, including what must be moved for a replacement. Easy showroom access may not apply beside your wall or fixed furniture. Ask which documents are supplied and in what language. Roof operation is only part of the experience; being able to operate it correctly and describe problems matters over time.

Separate impressions from verifiable evidence

A quieter display may reflect room acoustics, sample size or background sound, and colour impressions may depend on lighting. Record impressions together with their conditions. For performance, certification, coatings and warranty, request matching documents instead of treating spoken explanations as verified comparison results. Leave unresolved items open with an evidence request rather than forcing an overall brand score during the visit.

Reconcile the quotation before leaving

After the visit, ask the salesperson to confirm the quote against your target configuration and identify differences from the display. Keep sample approvals and document revisions for later design changes. Without a site survey, there is no need to fix final product specifications immediately; record operating preferences and conditions still requiring verification.

  • Record the complete display configuration and demonstration conditions.
  • Compare the same everyday tasks without treating a brief demonstration as certification.
  • Itemise included, excluded and unresolved quotation items.

Are all showroom pergola features necessarily included in the quotation?

Not necessarily. Record the display model, size, enclosures, lighting and controller, then reconcile each against the quote. Separate appearance, operating preferences and performance requiring evidence. The ordered configuration must also suit the actual site rather than simply reproduce the display.
